Families are the most important part of Heavenly Father’s plan. Just imagine how happier we could be knowing that we are going to live with God again as a family. I have come to realize that family history is not just about collecting names and memories as I used to think. It teaches us how important it is for families to enter into the kingdom of God.
Doing family history has helped me to strengthen my relationship with my living family members while helping my deceased family members enter the covenant path. Our ancestors don’t have another way come unto Christ. God wants us to help them receive ordinances in His holy temples.
While collecting information about my grandparents and great grandparents from my parents, aunt and uncle, I came to know that those days were more complicated than ours both temporally and spiritually.
Recently my maternal grandmother passed away. She was a great inspiration to us in this generation. She always wanted us grandchildren to be self-reliant, brave and strong. She didn’t just teach us great moral values, she herself has always been an example for all of us. Our grandmother showed us all her love through the delicious food she made. She prepared it so easily and quickly with a spice of love added in. No restaurant can beat the food made with her own hands.
When we gather as a family to pray together and share our testimonies, we feel the spirit and happiness. That peaceful and heartfelt joy comes only when we all spend time as a family. I want to continue doing family history because of the happiness it gives me.
One scripture that expresses how I feel while doing family history can be found in Psalms 133:1, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
