The Season Of Joy And Sharing

The season of Christmas is a time of joy, reflection, and wonder for people of all faiths worldwide. During this season, the whole world gets beautifully decorated, and people celebrate the holiday in their traditional ways.

For Christians, we commemorate the humble birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, which is more than a celebration for us. Our Heavenly Father had sent His only Begotten Son on this earth, among the mortals, for more significant purposes. Along with the blessings and opportunities of His birth, we reflect upon the Saviour's life, atonement and Resurrection. During His council on earth, He taught people to love one another selflessly and unconditionally. He entreated all to follow His example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, raising the dead. He taught truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential sons and daughters of God in the life to come.

The birth of Christ is a gift and blessing for all of us. Having faith in Him and following His footsteps to keep God's commandments will lead us to a pathway towards receiving eternal life where we can live with our Heavenly Father forever. His birth signifies light that reflects upon the whole world to bring peace, joy and good tidings.

After becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I realized that Christmas is more than just about celebrations and gifts. I have learned that it is the season of spreading joy and love, sharing and helping others, showing gratitude for the season's blessings. The greatest gift that I have received from my Father in heaven is the birth of His son, Jesus Christ, the most valuable and divine gift for all humankind.

Our small branch in Kolkata, despite having few members, always abound with high spirits during the season of our Saviour's birth. Every year, we arrange a gathering in the church on the Sunday before Christmas where the members invite their families, relatives, friends and neighbours to celebrate and know about the birth of Christ with us.

As the season of hope, love, peace, joy, light, giving and sharing is upon us, let us not forget the real meaning of Christmas. May we strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ and love for one another, bringing greater light of hope and peace in this world.
