Hearing Him through General Conference

I always look forward to General Conferences as they are very special to me. Doctrine & Covenants 1:38 says, “whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” I know when Prophets and Apostles speak, they reveal God’s will. I have received answers to many of my prayers while listening and studying the conference talks.

I prepare myself to receive personal revelation through conference talks before each conference. I sit and ponder and write on a piece of paper the questions to which I need answers. I find answers to a few of my questions as I listen to the talks and I find others while I study later. I pray that my heart and mind may be opened so that I can receive the things which are shared in the talks.

One such experience was in the early days of our marriage.  My wife and I were discussing our marriage goals and we wanted to make sure to have peace in our relationship. As part of the discussion, we felt to study what our Prophets and Apostles say about having a happy marriage. So, while searching conference talks, we came across a talk, “Marriage: Watch and Learn.” 1  The principles we learned from this talk during the early days of our marriage is helping us to have a successful marriage.

We have been married 6 years now, and we are very happy. We make decisions unanimously. We make all decisions about finances together, and both have access to all information. Our love for each other has been growing over the years. I learned to respect my spouse and show Christlike love. I learned successful eternal marriages are built on the foundation of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and obedience to His teachings.
