Important Announcements from April 2020 General Conference (Saturday sessions)

During the Saturday sessions of the April 2020 General Conference of the Church, President Russell M. Nelson made several important announcements.  Among the announcements were an invitation to members to participate in a worldwide solemn assembly when they view the Sunday morning session and a call for members and friends to participate in a day of fasting and prayer on Good Friday, April 10th.

What is a Solemn Assembly?

Solemn assemblies are special, sacred meetings held for a variety of holy purposes. They require Latter-day Saints to bring an elevated sense of spirituality with them into the meeting. The specific purpose of Sunday morning’s solemn assembly, outside of the Hosanna Shout, will be addressed by President Nelson during his remarks.

What is the Hosanna Shout and how is it given?

The Hosanna Shout is a way for Latter-day Saints to give honor and praise to God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Those participating will stand and follow President Nelson by waving a clean, white handkerchief, or in its absence waiving the hand only, while shouting in unison : “Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna to God and the Lamb,” three times, followed by “Amen, Amen and Amen.”

A Day of Fasting and Prayer

“I am calling for another worldwide fast,” said President Nelson.  “Let us prayerfully plead for relief from this global pandemic. I invite all, including those not of our faith, to fast and pray on Good Friday, April 10, that the present pandemic may be controlled, caregivers protected, the economy strengthened and life normalized.”
