A Joyful Service Project

'When ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God.'1During Christ's ministry on the earth, He loved and served the people. As His disciples, we must do the same. One of the ways to develop Christ-like love is to serve others with all our hearts.

Ward Bishopric, along with Young single Adult leaders, prayerfully decided to provide an opportunity to inculcate service among the YSAs and experience the joy that comes from living this commandment. This project would allow serving the community and expressing love through service. The idea was to provide a FREE CAR WASH SERVICE for a day at church.

The young single Adult committee proposed visiting a nearby garage to view the actual car wash process and help the Bishopric decide on timings and other necessary arrangements for the service project. YSAs volunteered to divide the various tasks relating to the activity, such as following up on each other, finding some uplifting music during the service project, visiting the garage, and the committee provided many more suggestions. Also, we invited a few members from the Elders Quorum as a backup and support. After all the follow-up meetings and preparations, we were finally ready for the big day!

We placed a banner on the roadside to let people know about the free car wash service. We decided on using economically feasible resources that fit our needs and, at the same time, cause minimal wastage. So, we used a handy water supply on the church premises, machinery from the church resources, and those that we could borrow from the ward members. We learnt how to handle things carefully. Through this service project, we learned that service doesn't require us to spend a lot. All it takes is the willingness and some smart calculations. Thanks to the Bishopric for helping us learn this important principle.

We successfully provided our service to 16 cars and two bikes, and approximately 2 to 3 cars per hour were washed. We are grateful for the opportunity we got to serve the people in the community. As we are still going through the pandemic, it was an opportunity to spend time with each other, have fun, and feel the joy of service.
