Faith in the Living God is a gift of God obtained through belief, obedience and righteous works. It is not sufficient to have faith in just anything; it must be focused on our Father in Heaven and His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ. As Elder Dallin H. Oaks explained, “The first principle of the gospel is not ‘faith.’
What does choosing faith mean? It means choosing to exercise faith in Jesus Christ, obeying His commandments and trusting in the power of His Atonement to save us. It also means choosing repentance over pride and stubbornness. In choosing faith, it is important that we have a correct understanding of this first principle of the gospel.
